Fieldstone Tutoring was established by Dan Gary. To the left is a picture of me taken a "few" years ago. I grew up in Texas as you may have guessed from my outfit.
Somewhere along the way I became interested in mathematics and I continued to pursue that interest, ultimately earning a Ph.D. in the subject from the University of Illinois. It was there that I met my wife, and soon after I graduated, we moved to San Diego where I worked for a number of years as a mathematician on projects for the U.S. Navy. Then I did something most mathematicians don't do - I went to law school. Yep, I became a lawyer. I worked as an attorney in a couple of places, eventually ending up working in Nashville. When my job took me to Nashville, our family decided to live in Franklin, and we continue to enjoy it very much. In January of 2015, I finally decided to retire from the lawyer life and return full-circle to my first love - mathematics. And that is how Fieldstone Tutoring came to be. |
We tutor mathematics and physics. Our primary focus is on high school mathematics and physics – Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, ACT mathematics preparation, and AP Physics. But we have also tutored a number of students in middle school and college .
When working with students, our goals are the same whether they are studying Algebra I or Calculus or anything in between. We want our students to understand the “why” as well as the “how”. In other words, we want students to understand the fundamental concepts as well as the applications of those concepts. |
